Petrokimia Gresik, a leading Agro-industry company and member of the Pupuk Indonesia holding, is committed to supporting the program of Panglima Kodam (Pangdam) V/Brawijaya, Major General TNI Rafael Granada Baay, in optimizing fallow land to enhance agricultural productivity in East Java. This commitment was marked by the joint initiative "Planting Rice, Corn, and Greenery between Petrokimia Gresik and Pangdam V/Brawijaya" in Wedoroanom Village, Driyorejo Sub-district, Gresik Regency, recently.

Director of Operations and Production at Petrokimia Gresik, Digna Jatiningsih, stated after attending the event that the threat of a food crisis has garnered government attention. Thus, President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, has called for collaboration and synergy among all stakeholders and community elements to ensure food sustainability in the future.

"The utilization of TNI's fallow land for productive farming is a positive development. The cultivation of this land is a joint strategy to safeguard national food security and achieve food self-sufficiency. This program aligns with Petrokimia Gresik's responsibility as a state-owned enterprise producing and distributing fertilizer nationwide to maintain national food security," said Digna.

A total of 15 hectares of TNI's fallow land in Wedoroanom has been utilized for corn cultivation. Additionally, 5 hectares have been allocated, with 1 hectare for rice cultivation and 4 hectares for corn cultivation.

Petrokimia Gresik's support for this TNI initiative includes providing Urea fertilizer, NPK Phonska Plus, and pesticides for application on the utilized land. Digna stated that this support strengthens the domestic agricultural sector sustainably.

"We know that the utilization of TNI's fallow land, carried out by Kodam V/Brawijaya, is not only in Gresik but also in several areas in East Java. This is a tangible step and is expected to inspire the community to optimize their land for agriculture. Intensifying agricultural practices and improving land quality are essential strategies for increasing production and productivity of food crops amid the threat of a food crisis," reiterated Digna.

Meanwhile, Pangdam V Brawijaya, Major General Rafael Granada Baay, conveyed in his remarks that they are committed to supporting the government's food security program to ensure sufficient and quality food availability for all Indonesian people, particularly in East Java.

"Today's activity is evidence that we have engaged in more productive efforts by implementing various innovations and creations in the agricultural sector, thereby meeting domestic needs to enhance national food security," stated Pangdam.
