MANAGEMENT SYSTEM POLICY OF PT PETROKIMIA GRESIK

PT Petrokimia Gresik (PG) is intended to dedicate itself to be the producer of fertilizers and other chemical substances which are highly competitive and wanted by consumers. It is also dedicated to be a leading and sustainable company by implementing Quality Management System, Environment Management System, Safety and Health Management System through integrated approaches. It further committed to:

  1. Assuring consumers’ satisfaction by providing fertilizer products, Chemical and service products through service of excellence in terms of optimum precise : quality, amount, types, place, time and price.
  2. Preventing from significant environment pollution through air emission controlling, liquid and solid waste as well as noise by implementing Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R) programs.
  3. Preventing from an accident and disease rooted from facilities and basic facilities damage via controlling any incoming risk potentials to create excellent culture and working system.
  4. Adhering and obeying any regulations and other on-going requirements and conditions. It is also demanded to be responsive to any safety issues, global and conservative environments, other resources and implementing Responsible Care and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

This policy is communicated to all employees, partners, suppliers and other stakeholders to be recognized well. The effectiveness then is reviewed periodically at least once a year.

Purposes and Objectives of Environmental Management :

  • Realizing good and harmonious environment in Petrokimia Gresik Industrials Area and surrounding in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations.
  • Realizing the company as advisors and supporters in creating good environment.
  • Biodiversity Conservation.

Environment Management System

Petrokima Gresik always considers that characteristic scale, and the environment impact from the operational activities. The Environment Management System which is implemented by Petrokimia Gresik has been certified by ISO 14001:2015. Petrokimia Gresik Commitment is to keep quality environment and preventing the pollution are also written in Integrated Management System Policy.

The waste management of Petrokimia Gresik is implemented the concept of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R), as well as according to the laws and regulations. To minimalize the impact of pollution Petrokimia Gresik factory units have already be equipped a medium of waste management, such as : Effluent treatment, equalizer, chalk injection unit, electrostatic prsipitator, scrubbing system, cyclone, and waste management of toxic and dangerous material (B3).

Environmental Conservation / Biodiversity

Petrokimia Gresik is a subsidiary company of PT Pupuk Indonesia (Pesero) that transforming the business towards the company of Agroindustry Solution. Along with the development, Petrokimia Gresik has a commitment to be a company with environment friendly and keep trying to keep quality environment and environment sustainability. Company has some programs to grow the awareness to the important of keep the quality environment and the conservation. Some of them to preserve biodiversity like:

Buah Siwalan

Siwalan (Borassus flabellifer) is known as palms family from India and distributed to Papua New Guinea, Africa, Australia, Southeast Asia and Tropical Asia.

Siwalan is a plant which has high economic value because most of it part is useful. Also, siwalan is one of the typical plants of Gresik City, which is now rarely found.

PT Petrokimia Gresik preserves siwalan's existence with a breakthrough in the use of plant tissue culture technology for its breeding development. In addition, planting siwalan trees is one of the greening programs in the environment around the company.

Buah Merah Bawean

Buah Merah Bawean (Diospyros blancoi) is a Philippines that already distributed in various tropical areas, include Indonesia. This plant was introduced to Java, Malaysia, Singapore Botanical Garden and India on 1881. According to IUCN (International Union for Conservation), Buah merah Bawean is a plant with status “vulnerable” and conservation must be sought immediately. PT Petrokimia Gresik has been conducting cultivation and preservation of buah merah bawean, and in collaboration with the community on the island of Bawean, where buah merah grows there as a step in its preservation, to avoid it becomes extinct.

Rusa Timor

Rusa Timor (Cervus timorensis) is an original deer from Indonesia which is estimated come from Java and Bali. Rusa Timor is set as fauna of West Southeast Nusa (NTB) Province. Based on the category from IUCN Redlist, since 2008 the status of rusa timor is in vulnerable conservation. The total native population of rusa timor in the original distribution area is estimated to be less than 10,000 animals. With the decrease estimation is 10% for three generations is caused the haunted activities to take their meat.

The reduction of land and pasture which is caused of conversion becomes agriculture land and residential also very influences the population of rusa timor. As an effort in preserving the rusa timor, Petrokimia Gresik already has permission for the captivity of rusa timor in company area. At this time, Petrokimia Gresik has 7 (seven) males of rusa timor and 8 (eight) females.

City Forest PT Petrokimia Gresik

PT Petrokimia Gresik (PG) is a member of PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) holding group committed to protect the environment and biodiversity.

Petrokimia Gresik owns a City Forest in the company's area which is continuously protected and preserved. The City Forest utilize the green open area around the railroad track area which the company no longer functions as a transportation route. In the City Forest there are 14 plant species, including 1 (one) species with status is Endangered (namely, Pterocarpus indicus), 1 (one) species with status is Near Threatened (namely, Swietenia mahagoni), and 10 species with status is Least Concern.

Angsana (Pterocarpus indicus) and Mahogany (Swietenia mahagoni) which are having status special internationally are commonly found in this location. The population is quite large with a density of 90 trees/ha and 100 trees/ha, and has trunk diameters of > 30cm and > 40cm.

The abundance of various types of avifauna, especially birds in the Petrokimia Gresik City Forest area, until 2020 found 16 species of fauna. Based on the conservation status according to environmental and forestry government regulations No.108 of 2018, all species found are not protected bird species. Based on The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species 2020, all bird species found in the Petrokimia Gresik City Forest have the status of Least Concern (LC). The abundance of bird species in Petrokimia Gresik City Forest was obtained based on the abundance index of bird species. Based on the abundance value, there are 7 (seven) types of avifauna including the dominant category (Relative abundance> 5%), 4 (four) sub-dominant types, and 8 (eight) non-dominant types.

Mangrove Forest Conservation
Petrokimia Gresik has determined 3 (three) mangrove conservation locations, namely in the estuary area of ​​Lewean River, Pangkah Kulon Village, Ujung Pangkah District, Pesisir Village, Tanjung Widoro, Bungah District, and Riverbanks in Sukorejo Village, Kebomas District. From 2015 to 2016, efforts have been made to accelerate the development of mangroves by planting mangroves in cooperation with POKMASWAS Pangkah Kulon around 5 ha with around 50 thousand trees planted. Then in 2018, in cooperation with the local community, planting was carried out on formerly abrasive pond land in Tanjung Widoro Village, as well as rehabilitation of the mangrove ecosystem on the banks of the Kali Lamong river, Sukorejo Village, Kebomas District along 1 km.

The Shannon Wiener diversity index obtained for each location is the Bengawan Solo-Pangkah Kulon Estuary of 3.034, the PRPM Mengare of 3,433 and the Kali Lamong Mangrove Ecotourism of 3.043. All three are in the high category. A total of 68 bird species were found in all observation locations In Bengawan Solo Estuary, 41 species were found, PRPM Mengare 51 species, and Kali Lamong Mangrove Ecotourism 31 species. A total of 11 species are included in the list of protected species with their distribution: 11 species found in Bengawan Solo Estuary, 7 species found in PRPM Mengare and 1 species found in the Kali Lamong Mangrove Ecotourism. Apart from birds protected by law, migratory birds were also found. 23 species found in Bengawan Solo Estuary are migratory birds. At the Mengare Mangrove Learning and Restoration Center, 8 species of migratory birds were found and in the Kali Lamong Mangrove Ecotourism 1 species of migratory birds were found. Management of coastal areas is important to support wildlife habitat, including bird communities.
