Petrokimia Gresik, an Agroindustrial Solutions company and a member of the Pupuk Indonesia holding company, delivered 175 food packages to flood victims from the Lamong River in Gresik Regency. In addition, the company also sent 5,000 sacks and 20 tarpaulins for the construction of emergency embankments. The aid was handed over directly to the Gresik Regency Government (Pemkab) through the Gresik Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) on Wednesday (December 24, 2025).

Separately, Petrokimia Gresik President Director Daconi Khotob stated that flooding in several villages in the Gresik area had occurred since Sunday (December 21, 2025), but community activities had not yet recovered, as hundreds of homes were still inundated.

"In carrying out its business operations, Petrokimia Gresik not only produces quality fertilizers and chemicals for the advancement of national agriculture and industry, but the company's presence must also be felt by the community. This assistance is a form of our concern, as Petrokimia Gresik employees. We want to be present among the people currently experiencing the flood disaster," said Daconi.

Each basic food package distributed by Petrokimia Gresik contains 3 kilograms of rice, instant noodles, cooking oil, and eggs. This assistance is the result of coordination between Petrokimia Gresik and the Gresik Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), ensuring that it truly meets the needs of the victims. The BPBD also assisted in its distribution, ensuring it reached its intended target and made a positive contribution to accelerating the recovery of flood victims.

Daconi also added that, based on coordination with the BPBD, Petrokimia Gresik also sent thousands of bags and tarpaulins to build emergency embankments. The flooding in southern Gresik was caused, in part, by the breach of the Lamong River embankment in Cerme District. According to data from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), flooding inundated three sub-districts in Gresik Regency due to breached embankments and overflowing rivers: Balongpanggang, Benjeng, and Cerme.

Daconi further stated that, as a company headquartered in Gresik Regency, Petrokimia Gresik is committed to continuously assisting the government in handling the flood disaster in Gresik. Through the Taruna Makmur Batch 8 Program, the company is developing 55 young agronomists who are ready to directly assist farmers in the field.

Petrokimia Gresik's Director of Risk Management, Johanes Barus, at the recent Taruna Makmur Entrepreneurship event held in Gresik, East Java, stated that the dozens of young agronomists are active students from several agricultural educational institutions in Indonesia. They received training at the "Makmur School" and are currently deployed in the field as agronomists.

"While in the field, the Taruna Makmur are expected to act as mentors and agents of change. They assist farmers in implementing good cultivation practices, utilizing agricultural technology, and increasing productivity and sustainability of farming businesses. The 27 students from Taruna Makmur Batch 8 come from the Agricultural Development Polytechnic (Polbangtan) in Malang. Thirteen students are from the Yogyakarta Institute of Plantation Education (LPP) Polytechnic; 12 students from Polbangtan in Bogor; and three students from Polbangtan in Medan.

"Through this program, active students from various agricultural educational institutions are given the opportunity to directly participate in mentoring farmers in the field, while simultaneously honing their technical, managerial, and social competencies as future young agronomists," he concluded.

Furthermore, Johanes hopes that the presence of Taruna Makmur will inspire the younger generation in Indonesia to participate in developing the agricultural sector. He believes that farmer regeneration is a problem in Indonesia's agriculture that requires support and active participation from many parties.

Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) indicates that more than 70% of Indonesian farmers are over 40 years old, while the proportion of young farmers aged 19–39 remains around 20%. This situation requires collective attention, as it has the potential to impact the sustainability of national production and food security in the future.

"Collaboration between the government, education, and the industrial sector is key to building a modern, productive, competitive, and sustainable agricultural ecosystem," he said.

Meanwhile, Petrokimia Gresik initiated the Sekolah Makmur program starting in 2022, and is currently in Batch 8. Since its launch, Petrokimia Gresik has produced 373 Taruna Makmur, who are qualified agricultural human resources (HR).

In this program, Petrokimia Gresik recruits active Polbangtan students to become Taruna Makmur. The goal is to provide them with the opportunity to intern as field agronomists for six months, while also strengthening their role in agricultural cultivation management to increase productivity and foster the regeneration of young farmers in Indonesia.

Students are very enthusiastic about participating in this program. The number of applicants for the Taruna Makmur program has increased year after year.

Meanwhile, Harvestion is a Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program initiated by Petrokimia Gresik as a concrete effort to promote local food self-sufficiency through the active role of Agricultural Vocational Schools (SMK Pertanian). This competition-based and educational program encourages the use of school land as a living laboratory for agricultural innovation, sustainable agricultural practices, appropriate technology, and agro-entrepreneurship.

Harvestion is an evolution of Gempita (Generation of Innovative and Resilient Young Farmers), which was held in 2024. Last year, Gempita attracted 62 teams from 28 vocational schools in East Java, competing on innovative agricultural ideas.

The success of Gempita in 2024 led to the evolution of the competition, making it broader and more comprehensive, addressing the needs of educational development. Harvestion 2025 is an academic competition in agriculture aimed at strengthening the capacity of vocational schools (SMK), encouraging innovation and local food independence, and strengthening collaboration between vocational education and the agricultural industry.

This program also aims to build networks among agricultural vocational schools (SMK) in East Java, increasing their contribution to regional food security and strengthening an inclusive agro-industrial ecosystem. This program is also supported by the East Java Provincial Education Office.

Through this program, Petrokimia Gresik encourages domestic farmers to optimize technology in their cultivation processes, such as using drones for fertilization and utilizing the Internet of Things (IoT) to obtain geospatial data and precise fertilizer recommendations tailored to crop needs.

The application of this technology not only makes the cultivation process more effective and efficient but also impacts productivity and farmer welfare. By November 2025, Smart Precision Farming had been implemented on 2,524 hectares of land in East Java, Central Java, and West Java, covering various commodities such as sugar cane, rice, corn, edamame, cassava, and other agricultural commodities.

The next innovation that optimizes technology is the Agro Tech Center. This program successfully utilized 7,656 square meters of idle land as an education center and demonstration site for the application of modern agricultural technologies, including indoor farming systems, hydroponics, crop and agro-climate monitoring technology, automatic watering and fertilization systems, and other agricultural machinery (alsintan) technology.

Petrokimia Gresik's President Director, Daconi Khotob, stated that the natural disaster in Sumatra has occurred since November 27th, but the affected communities have not yet fully recovered and require assistance from many parties. The first aid package sent by Petrokimia Gresik, in collaboration with Pupuk Indonesia, included basic necessities, hygiene kits, school supplies, and daily necessities worth Rp 100 million. The next package consisted of ready-to-eat meals and rice worth Rp 100 million, departing from Jakarta on December 4, 2025.

In addition, Petrokimia Gresik will also distribute direct aid worth Rp 50 million, consisting of rice, cooking oil, instant noodles, mineral water, eggs, sugar, and tea, to approximately 500 beneficiaries.

Support also came from the Petrokimia Gresik Group, coordinated by the Petrokimia Gresik Employees Union (SKPG), which provided Rp 204 million in aid to Pupuk Iskandar Muda (PIM) employees affected by the floods in Aceh. The event, held at a fishpond in Gumeno Village, Manyar District, Gresik Regency, on Thursday (December 4, 2025), was attended by Petrokimia Gresik's Director of Finance and General Affairs, Adityo Wibowo.

Adityo Wibowo, as he is familiarly known, explained that the gogoh iwak competition—traditional fishing with bare hands—is not only a creative and entertaining event, but also a platform for Petrokimia Gresik to educate fish farmers about Good Aquaculture Practices (GAP)-compliant fish farming practices, given that the majority of the participants are fish farmers themselves.

"In line with this education, Petrokimia Gresik has a flagship probiotic called Petrofish. This product contains superior microbes that have been proven to increase the productivity of fish and shrimp cultivation. We hope that the knowledge and technology shared today can be adopted by fish farmers, resulting in more abundant and sustainable harvests," said Adit.

This potential makes the fisheries sector a vital source of livelihood for the people of Gresik.

The gogoh iwak competition itself was the main attraction of this event and was the first of its kind held by Petrokimia Gresik. Participants competed to catch tilapia and milkfish in a single pond using their bare hands. The winner was the participant who caught the heaviest fish.
