Petrokimia Gresik, an Agroindustry Solutions company and a member of the Pupuk Indonesia group, has pledged its commitment to support the East Java Provincial Government in environmental management. This commitment is formalized in a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the President Director of Petrokimia Gresik, Dwi Satriyo Annurogo, and the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, during the Peak Commemoration of World Environment Day in East Java, held in Malang on Monday (4/9).
Dwi Satriyo stated that environmental control, including pollution and environmental damage, requires collaboration from various parties, not only from the government.
"The air pollution in Jakarta that continues to occur until today is caused by many factors, and active participation from many parties is needed to address it. Before that happens, preventive action is essential. This joint agreement is an effort to prevent pollution and environmental damage in East Java, and Petrokimia Gresik is ready to support this initiative," said Dwi Satriyo.
The scope of this collaborative agreement includes the control of wastewater pollution, domestic waste management, improvement of areas along rivers, the provision of supporting facilities and infrastructure, and environmental education for the community.
"In every environmental management program, Petrokimia Gresik actively involves the community, ensuring the sustainability of environmental management programs. Similarly, in this agreement, we will collaborate with the local community to ensure that the implementation of activities and the continuity of the program can be sustained," he explained.
Previously, Petrokimia Gresik has been actively involved in environmental control and management. One of these initiatives is the environmental management program along the Lamong River, located in Sukorejo Village, Kebomas Sub-district, Gresik Regency, which is a tributary of the Bengawan Solo.
The Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSER) program along the Lamong River is packaged as the development of the Lamong River Mangrove Conservation Tourism (Kalam Mangrove). The company collaborated with the Sukorejo Village community, successfully transforming the riverbank area of the Lamong River from a dumping ground for waste into a comfortable mangrove ecotourism site that provides additional income for the local community.
Finally, Dwi Satriyo expressed gratitude to the Governor of East Java for entrusting Petrokimia Gresik to participate in the pollution control and environmental damage prevention program in East Java. This will further strengthen Petrokimia Gresik's commitment to environmental care.
"We are aware that environmental care is not only an essential instrument for Petrokimia Gresik's sustainability but also for the sustainability of our nation and country," concluded Dwi Satriyo.
