Petrokimia Gresik Commemorates One Million Trees Movement Day by Planting 10,000 Mangrove Seedlings at PRPM Mengare

At the moment of One Million Tree Movement Day, Petrokimia Gresik, an Agroindustrial Solutions company member of the Pupuk Indonesia planted 10,000 mangrove seedlings with the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Agrie Conservation at the Mengare Mangrove Restoration and Planting Center (PRPM) in Tanjungwidoro Village, Bungah District, Gresik Regency, Wednesday (10/1/2024).

Separately, the President Director of Petrokimia Gresik, Dwi Satriyo Annurogo said that this activity is a tangible manifestation of Petrokimia Gresik's commitment to environmental management, as well as a form of company support for the mangrove forest rehabilitation program run by the Government.

"Petrokimia Gresik has received Gold Proper three times in a row, which is the highest award from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in environmental management. This means that the standardization of environmental management carried out by Petrokimia Gresik must continue to be improved, one of which is through the mangrove planting program on the north Gresik coast," said Dwi Satriyo.

He added, that what is interesting about this mangrove planting activity is that there is an active contribution from Petrokimia Gresik employees through the Charitree 2.0 program. Employees who are actively involved collect inorganic waste from home and the environment, to be collected in Eco-Dropbox. For this involvement, each employee has contributed to the collection of mangrove seedlings.

"Petrokimia Gresik views inorganic waste which has been an environmental problem as an opportunity to create positive change," he said.

Employees collect inorganic waste from various sources such as plastic, paper, glass, e-waste, metal, and used cooking oil which are often a burden on the environment. The waste is then collected in Eco-Dropbox which already exists in the company's environment. The waste is converted into rupiah, and all participants who participate in this event will also receive a certificate of donation of mangrove seeds.

"Petrokimia Gresik in carrying out its business processes is not only profit-oriented but also wants to foster employee concern and involvement in environmental conservation," explained Dwi Satriyo.

Meanwhile, mangrove conservation is an activity that Petrokimia Gresik has routinely held. In 2023 starting from Charitree 1.0, Petrokimia Gresik planted 3,750 mangrove seedlings; then on the occasion of the company's 51st Anniversary, Petrokimia Gresik also planted 5,100 seedlings; and in the Envirocamp 2023 program as many as 2,000 seedlings.
"Furthermore, Petrokimia Gresik starts 2024 by planting 10,000 mangrove seedlings. Petrokimia Gresik continues to be more committed to contributing to a greener and more sustainable environment, and can be an example in efforts to maintain the sustainability of this commons," concluded Dwi Satriyo.
