Petrokimia Gresik, an Agroindustry Solution company and a member of the Pupuk Indonesia, introduced the Employee Green Behavior (EGB) initiative marked by the signing of a commitment to environmental care during the peak celebration of World Environment Day at GOR Tri Dharma, Gresik, East Java, a while ago.
I Ketut Rusnaya, Senior Executive Vice President (SEVP) of Operations at Petrokimia Gresik, conveyed that several commitments were signed by the members of Petrokimia Gresik, including energy conservation, water conservation, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, waste and Hazardous and Toxic Substances (B3) management based on 3R (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle), preserving biodiversity, and adapting to and mitigating climate change.
"Petrokimia Gresik, since its establishment in 1972, for nearly 51 years, has consistently fulfilled its obligations in managing business waste to prevent environmental pollution. The signing of EGB is expected to further strengthen the commitment of all members of Petrokimia Gresik in fulfilling these responsibilities," he emphasized.
Ketut further revealed that the awareness of Petrokimia Gresik's members to preserve the environment has garnered much appreciation from stakeholders. Most notably, Petrokimia Gresik received the Gold Proper award in 2021 and 2022.
"Of course, this serves as a driving force for Petrokimia Gresik to maintain its commitment to continuous improvement and protection, aiming to prevent environmental pollution, especially in the solid waste and emission sectors," he expressed.
Meanwhile, the signing of this commitment was also attended and witnessed by the Head of the Environmental Agency (DLH) of Gresik Regency, Sri Subaidah. In her speech, she appreciated the role of Petrokimia Gresik, which has numerous programs to commemorate World Environment Day in 2023. These programs enhance awareness and concern for sustainable environmental preservation.
"Hopefully, we can continue to synergize and collaborate to always maintain the sustainability of a good and healthy environment for our future generations," she concluded.
In addition to signing the EGB commitment, the culmination of World Environment Day at Petrokimia Gresik was also marked by the CHARITREE Program (Caring and Healing Environment by Replanting the Tree) or the donation of mangrove seedlings participated in by 375 employees. Each employee donated 10 seedlings, totaling 3,750 mangrove seedlings contributed to be planted at the Mangrove Restoration and Learning Center (PRPM) in Mengare.
On the same day, Petrokimia Gresik also carried out the planting of rare trees for environmental preservation and to save endangered flora. Additionally, they conducted "Grebek Kantong Plastik" or replacing plastic bags of Gresik Market visitors with reusable shopping bags in collaboration with DLH Gresik.
The Grebek Kantong Plastik program is one of Petrokimia Gresik's expressions of care and education to the local community to reduce plastic waste in daily life.
"Hopefully, these programs inspire the community to be more proactive in environmental management," Ketut concluded.
