Petrokimia Gresik, an Agroindustry Solution company and a member of the Pupuk Indonesia, extends its support to the Central Board of the Indonesian Weightlifting Association (PB PABSI) in fostering young and promising weightlifting athletes. This support is channeled through contributions to the organization of the National Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championship Pupuk Indonesia Series I 2023 in Surabaya, from June 6 to 9, 2023.
During a recent press conference in Surabaya, Dwi Satriyo Annurogo, the President Director of Petrokimia Gresik, emphasized that this championship is one of the platforms established by Pupuk Indonesia in collaboration with its member companies, including Petrokimia Gresik, to cultivate accomplished weightlifters in the country. The more weightlifting competitions that can be organized, the greater the potential for the sport to flourish in various regions.
"This championship is our joint effort to increase enthusiasm for weightlifting, thus enlarging public interest in engaging with this sport. Community support is crucial for any sports branch to generate the next generation of athletes," stated Dwi Satriyo.
Petrokimia Gresik's support, together with Pupuk Indonesia Group, for the organization of this National Championship is not a new endeavor. In the previous year, Petrokimia Gresik also provided assistance to PB PABSI for the development of weightlifters through the same competition.
"Alhamdulillah, from last year's National Championship, talented and accomplished weightlifters emerged, namely Luluk Tri Wijayana in the 49 kg category and Muhammad Husni in the 55 kg category. Both successfully secured medals at the SEA GAMES Cambodia 2023," shared Dwi Satriyo.
"This is one of the contributions Petrokimia Gresik can make to bring honor to Indonesia on the international stage through our accomplished young generation," he added.
At the same venue, the Secretary-General of PB PABSI, Djoko Pramono, stated that the mission of this National Championship is to provide a competitive platform for young and junior athletes to ensure the continuity of athlete development within PABSI.
"We hope this support will continue. Achieving excellence requires ongoing efforts, including providing competitions for young and junior weightlifters," he expressed.
The National Championship Series I 2023 features 10 weight categories, with five categories for both male and female contestants. The weight classes for the Youth Men category include 55 kg, 61 kg, 67 kg, 73 kg, and +73 kg. Meanwhile, the Youth Women category comprises 45 kg, 49 kg, 55 kg, 59 kg, and +59 kg. The Junior category competes in the same weight classes as the Youth category.
This championship series has garnered significant interest and enthusiasm from weightlifters across various regions in Indonesia. The current series is participated by approximately 183 lifters and 77 coaches from 21 provinces.
"We hope this support can yield optimal results and enhance the achievements of Indonesian weightlifting athletes, both at the national and international levels. Therefore, we encourage all competition participants to showcase their best abilities," concluded Dwi Satriyo.
