The Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) of the Republic of Indonesia, Arifatul Choiri Fauzi, expressed his appreciation for the Petrokimia Gresik Daycare, an Agroindustrial Solutions company and a member of the Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) holding company. He expressed his appreciation during a recent working visit to Petrokimia Gresik in Gresik, East Java.
"I really appreciate Petrokimia Gresik. Petrokimia Gresik wants its daycare to be enjoyed by more than just employees' children. We have 34 children here, including those not employed. Companies typically struggle to provide daycare for their employees' children, but this can have a positive impact on the community," said the Minister, familiarly known as Arifah Fauzi.
According to her, one of the challenges still faced by working women is the double burden of having children. This often impacts the sustainability of women's careers, with many even choosing to resign from their jobs. Therefore, the existence of daycare is an important solution to help women remain productive while fulfilling their roles as mothers.
"The double burden borne by women often leads to resignations after having children. Hopefully, this won't happen at Petrokimia Gresik because we have daycare facilities," she said.
Furthermore, Arifah Fauzi explained that the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection is currently promoting the implementation of Child-Friendly Foster Care (TARA) as a standard for providing quality daycare services that are oriented toward child development. She hopes this standard will be applied to existing daycare services to maximize their benefits.
"From the data, I see that the daycare at Petrokimia Gresik already meets the standards. We can coordinate what can be strengthened in the future," she concluded.
Meanwhile, Petrokimia Gresik's President Director, Daconi Khotob, stated that Petrokimia Gresik is committed to providing a work environment that supports the well-being of its employees and their families. As part of the Pupuk Indonesia Group, the company believes that success is determined not only by business performance but also by the ability to create a safe, comfortable, and inclusive work environment for all employees.
This commitment is realized through various programs, one of which is the Petrokimia Gresik Daycare, which has been operating since 1993. This daycare is managed by the Petrokimia Gresik Employees' Wives Association (PIKA) through its Education Division.
Currently, the Petrokimia Gresik Daycare serves 56 children, consisting of 22 children of Petrokimia Gresik employees and 34 children from the general public. The children at the daycare range in age from 3 months to 6–7 years.
"We strive to provide safe, comfortable care services that support children's growth and development, so that parents, especially working mothers, can carry out their roles more calmly and productively," explained Daconi.
She added that efforts to create a woman- and child-friendly work environment require collaboration from various parties, including the government, the business world, workers, and families.
"Petrokimia Gresik welcomes the direction and input from the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection as a means to continuously improve the quality of women's and children's protection programs within the company," she concluded.
The Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection's visit reinforces Petrokimia Gresik's commitment to providing a family-friendly work environment while providing broader benefits to the surrounding community. Through inclusive daycare services, Petrokimia Gresik not only helps increase worker productivity but also contributes to supporting the growth and development of children in the surrounding area.
