PT Petrokimia Gresik (Persero), an Agroindustrial Solutions company and member of the holding company PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), reaffirmed its commitment to preserving coastal ecosystems. Coinciding with the commemoration of World Mangrove Day 2026, Petrokimia Gresik participated in the Indonesia-wide Simultaneous Mangrove Planting initiative initiated by the Ministry of Environment (KLH) on Sunday (July 26, 2026). In Gresik, Petrokimia Gresik planted approximately 1,000 mangrove seedlings in stages at the Mengare Mangrove Restoration and Planting Center (PRPM) in Tanjungwidoro Village, Bungah District.
This national activity was centered at the Batu Lumbang Mangrove Ecotourism Port in Bali and was implemented simultaneously across Indonesia.
"Preserving coastal ecosystems is an integral part of the company's commitment to achieving sustainable development. Therefore, every environmental program the company implements is designed to provide ecological benefits as well as social and economic benefits for the community," said Petrokimia Gresik President Director Daconi Khotob on Monday (July 27, 2026).
According to Daconi, mangroves play a strategic role in maintaining the balance of coastal ecosystems. In addition to providing habitat for various marine life, mangroves also absorb significant amounts of carbon, reduce the rate of abrasion, and protect coastal areas from the threat of waves and erosion.
"Mangroves are a natural barrier that maintains the balance of coastal ecosystems. Their ability to withstand abrasion and absorb carbon makes them a natural solution to support climate change mitigation," said Daconi.
He added that the mangrove philosophy aligns with Petrokimia Gresik's business spirit. Just as the strong roots of mangroves protect the coast, Petrokimia Gresik continues to strengthen its role in maintaining national food security while building a company resilient to the dynamics of the global industry.
"The mangrove spirit reflects the values we hold dear. We want to continue growing on a strong foundation, providing benefits to the environment and society, while maintaining the sustainability of Indonesia's agricultural sector to become more resilient in facing future challenges," added Daconi.
Participation in the Indonesia-wide Simultaneous Mangrove Planting program complements various Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programs implemented by Petrokimia Gresik to support coastal ecosystem preservation. One example is the development of the Kalam Mangrove Ecotourism in Sukorejo Village, which has successfully transformed the Lamong River border area into a waste-free area, a mangrove conservation area, and an eco-tourism destination.
Furthermore, Petrokimia Gresik is also continuously developing the Mengare Mangrove Restoration and Planting Center (PRPM) in Tanjungwidoro Village. This program prioritizes community empowerment through coastal ecosystem conservation to reduce abrasion, increase fisheries productivity, and create alternative sources of income through the development of integrated coastal ecotourism.
The company's commitment to mangrove ecosystem preservation is also demonstrated through its support for the development of the Ujungpangkah Mangrove Essential Ecosystem Area (KEE). For this contribution, Petrokimia Gresik received recognition from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia as the Best Company in the Private Sector Category.
Through planting these mangrove seedlings, Petrokimia Gresik hopes to foster a spirit of preserving coastal ecosystems within the community.
