PT Petrokimia Gresik (Persero), an Agroindustrial Solutions company and member of the holding company PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), introduced the GladiAgro: Next-Gen Soil Revival innovation as a solution to help restore soil health and support sustainable agriculture. This innovation won the top award as Outstanding Distinguished Innovator at the 2026 SDGs Innovation Accelerator for Young Professionals held by the Indonesia Global Compact Network (IGCN). This achievement also paved the way for GladiAgro to be introduced at the UN Global Compact forum in New York, United States, in September 2026.

Petrokimia Gresik President Director, Daconi Khotob, in Gresik on Tuesday (July 28, 2026), stated that GladiAgro was developed to address the challenge of declining agricultural soil quality, which can impact fertilizer effectiveness and agricultural productivity.

"GladiAgro is part of Petrokimia Gresik's efforts to provide solutions to soil health issues. We want to help farmers improve land conditions so that fertilization is more effective, productivity increases, and agricultural sustainability is maintained," said Daconi.

This innovation stems from Petrokimia Gresik's concern about the declining quality of agricultural soil in Indonesia. This condition is influenced, among other things, by the unbalanced use of fertilizers and the ongoing practice of burning agricultural waste.

Based on testing of 40,282 soil samples conducted by Petrokimia Gresik since 2016 in 27 provinces, 91.9 percent of the samples showed low organic carbon content. This condition can reduce soil quality and fertility, reduce the effectiveness of fertilizer applications, and suboptimal agricultural productivity.

To address this issue, GladiAgro utilizes Petro Gladiator, a superior microbe-based bioproduct, to process agricultural waste into Liquid Organic Nutrients (NOC). These nutrients are then returned to the land to increase organic matter content, improve soil structure, and help restore fertility.

"GladiAgro addresses the root of agricultural problems, namely low soil fertility. Petro Gladiator acts as a decomposer to help increase organic matter content. When soil quality improves, nutrient absorption is more optimal, increasing agricultural productivity and making the land more adaptable to climate change," explained Daconi.

GladiAgro has been implemented in Central and East Java for various food and horticultural commodities. This program is supported by the Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based AgrooFertile App, which provides commodity-specific fertilizer recommendations.

Through the AgrooFertile App, farmers can obtain fertilizer recommendations tailored to their commodity and land conditions. This allows for more precise, efficient, and environmentally friendly fertilization.

Furthermore, GladiAgro has the potential to be replicated across various commodities and regions. This innovation also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 2 on food security, SDG 4 on improving farmer capacity, SDG 12 on responsible consumption and production, SDG 15 on restoring terrestrial ecosystems, and SDG 17 on strengthening multi-stakeholder collaboration.

The SDGs Innovation Accelerator for Young Professionals 2026 began in December 2025 and lasted six months. The program was attended by 72 young innovators from 18 companies.

Daconi stated that the award is a token of appreciation for Petrokimia Gresik's efforts in developing agro-industrial solutions that provide balanced economic, social, and environmental benefits.

"This award is not an end in itself, but rather a motivation for us to continue refining and expanding the benefits of GladiAgro. We hope this innovation can become a good practice for Indonesia in realizing more productive and sustainable agriculture, while also helping farmers address soil health challenges and strengthening national food security," Daconi concluded.
