Petrokimia Gresik Promotes Early Waste Management Education on World Environment Day

Petrokimia Gresik, a leading Agroindustry Solutions company and a member of the Pupuk Indonesia holding, commemorates World Environment Day on Monday (5/6) by conducting early waste management education for elementary school children in Gresik, East Java.

Dwi Satriyo Annurogo, CEO of Petrokimia Gresik, represented by Liliek Harmianto, Vice President of Environment, expressed that this initiative is a manifestation of Petrokimia Gresik's commitment to the environment, particularly in the Gresik Regency.

"Today's waste management education is the opening activity, an effort to introduce and build environmental awareness from an early age for elementary school students," said Liliek.

The educational program involved 50 students from eight Adiwiyata-awarded elementary schools located around the company. These schools have demonstrated a high commitment to environmental management.

"We hope that this activity can educate the community from an early age and continue to create an innovative and problem-solving younger generation regarding environmental issues," he added.

The waste management education took place directly at the Ngipik Landfill. Participants were trained to sort plastic, organic, and inorganic waste for further treatment. The activities included compost making, maggot cultivation, eco-enzyme production, and tree planting at the Ngipik Landfill.

"We provide waste management and composting training to children from an early age. The goal is to make it a habit for them, to be applied directly in school and home environments. This way, it becomes inspiring for their friends and families," concluded Liliek.

The event was attended by officials from the Environmental Agency, the Head of Ngipik Landfill UPT, and accompanying teachers.

In addition to this activity, Petrokimia Gresik's World Environment Day program includes CHARITREE (Challenges Tree Donation X Viral); ENCHALL (National Student Research Competition); Planting Rare Trees at the Petrokimia Gresik Sports Center; Employee Green Behavior (EGB) signing; and Plastic Waste Raid at Gresik Market in collaboration with the Environmental Agency.
