The Head of the Environmental Agency (DLH) of Gresik Regency, Sri Subaidah, appreciated the consistency of PT Petrokimia Gresik (Persero), an Agroindustrial Solutions company and member of the PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) holding, in preserving the environment through the development of the Mangrove Restoration and Learning Center (PRPM) Mengare in Tanjung Widoro Village, Gresik. The appreciation was conveyed during a mangrove planting activity that formed part of the series for Petrokimia Gresik's 54th Anniversary, Wednesday (5/8/2026).

According to Sri Subaidah, collaboration between the company, government, and community is the key to successful conservation capable of delivering environmental benefits while enhancing community welfare.

"I greatly appreciate this activity. With the mangrove conservation carried out by Petrokimia Gresik, the environment in Gresik will become better and more sustainable. Moreover, Petrokimia Gresik is committed to running this program sustainably so that its benefits can continue to be felt by the community," she said.

Furthermore, she stated that PRPM Mengare serves as proof that environmental preservation yields optimal results when carried out together. She hopes such collaboration will continue and inspire more parties to safeguard coastal sustainability.

"Gresik has a mangrove area spanning 3,912 hectares that we must preserve for future generations. I also see that Petrokimia Gresik does not only plant mangroves, but also educates the community—ranging from how to plant mangroves to developing mangrove batik. These efforts also contribute to improving community welfare," revealed Sri Subaidah.

Meanwhile, the President Director of Petrokimia Gresik, Daconi Khotob, conveyed that the 54th Anniversary commemoration serves as momentum for the company to continuously deliver benefits for the community and the environment. Therefore, Petrokimia Gresik chose to celebrate its anniversary through tangible action in the form of mangrove planting, which is expected to provide long-term benefits for the coastal area.

"Turning 54 serves as a reminder for us to keep growing together with the community and the environment. This mangrove planting is a manifestation of Petrokimia Gresik's care in maintaining coastal preservation so that its benefits can be felt not only today, but also by future generations," said Daconi.

According to Daconi, mangroves play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of coastal ecosystems. In addition to mitigating abrasion and dampening waves, mangroves also serve as a habitat for various biota and contribute to carbon sequestration to support climate change control.

The planting activity was conducted at PRPM Mengare, a mangrove conservation area developed by Petrokimia Gresik together with the Community Surveillance Group (Pokmaswas) of Tanjung Widoro Village since 2018. Starting from critical former fishpond land, the area has now developed into a community-empowerment-based mangrove restoration and learning center that also drives the growth of edutourism and the coastal economy.

The restoration journey at PRPM Mengare has also shown encouraging results. The area of mangroves in PRPM Mengare expanded from 5.01 hectares in 2019 to 6.7 hectares in 2025. The mangrove ecosystem continues to recover, natural regeneration is taking place, and the coastal area has become better protected so that its benefits can be directly felt by the surrounding community.

Vice President (VP) of Environment at Petrokimia Gresik, Muhammad Harisul Baihaqi, explained that this program will continue to be developed to deliver sustainable benefits for the environment, community, and future generations.

"Petrokimia Gresik strives to restore coastal ecosystems that were previously impacted by tidal floods and abrasion, which eroded a portion of the community's fishponds. With this mangrove planting, the ecosystem can recover, thereby providing benefits to both the environment and the community," he said.

Closing his statement, Daconi emphasized that efforts to maintain environmental preservation will continue to be strengthened through various sustainability programs involving the community. The mangrove planting activity at PRPM Mengare is one of the company's real manifestations in safeguarding coastal ecosystems while building a more sustainable environment.

"For us, preserving the environment is not merely about fulfilling corporate responsibility, but is an investment for the future. We want to continue growing as a company that provides benefits to the community, while passing down a better environment for future generations," Daconi concluded.
