Petrokimia Gresik, an Agroindustrial Solutions company and a member of the Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) holding company, recently sent off 50 Taruna Makmur (Taruna Makmur) for six-month field internships in various regions through the "Wirakarya Taruna Makmur Batch IX" program. This program is the company's effort to prepare young agronomists ready to support increased agricultural productivity and national food self-sufficiency.
Adityo Wibowo, Director of Finance and General Affairs at Petrokimia Gresik, stated during the send-off that strengthening the quality of Human Resources (HR) is a crucial factor in achieving sustainable national food self-sufficiency. Since its initiation in 2022, Petrokimia Gresik has graduated 423 Taruna Makmur.
"The success of agricultural development is determined not only by the availability of production facilities, but also by the quality of its human resources. Through Taruna Makmur, we aim to prepare a young generation with agronomic competence, communication skills, and field experience, enabling them to become farmer companions and agents of change in the agricultural sector," said Adit, Adityo Wibowo's nickname.
Taruna Makmur is a field internship program for active students from the Agricultural Development Polytechnics (Polbangtan) in Malang, Bogor, Medan, Gowa, Yoma, and the LPP Yogyakarta Polytechnic. This program is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in mentoring farmers, overseeing agricultural cultivation, and introducing various agricultural innovations and solutions in the field.
Before being deployed to their assigned areas, participants receive training on sustainable agricultural cultivation, effective communication techniques, personal branding development, and the use of the latest agricultural technology. This training is expected to enhance their capacity to carry out professional duties in the field.
During their assignment, Taruna Makmur will support the implementation of Petrokimia Gresik's Agrosolution Program. They are tasked with socializing the program to farmers and stakeholders, overseeing the implementation of balanced fertilization, providing cultivation assistance, assisting with coordination between stakeholders, and overseeing the implementation of demonstration plots and program administration.
Adit further added that the agricultural sector plays a very strategic role in national food security, public welfare, and economic growth. However, one of the major challenges facing Indonesian agriculture is farmer regeneration. This program is also part of Petrokimia Gresik's efforts to strengthen agricultural regeneration in Indonesia.
"That's why collaboration is key. Collaboration between the government, universities, farmers, and business actors must continue to be strengthened so that we can build an advanced, independent, and sustainable agricultural ecosystem," he emphasized.
The 50 Taruna Makmur Batch IX will be placed in various Petrokimia Gresik work areas across East Java, Central Java, West Java, and Bali. The participants come from various study programs relevant to the agricultural sector, ranging from sustainable agricultural extension, agribusiness, horticulture, seed technology, to plantation management.
Through this program, Petrokimia Gresik hopes to produce young agronomists who are professional, adaptable to technological developments, and highly committed to the progress of the national agricultural sector. The presence of Taruna Makmur is expected to support increased agricultural productivity and strengthen the government's efforts to achieve national food self-sufficiency.
"They will act as an extension of the company in assisting farmers, accelerating the adoption of good agricultural practices, and supporting the implementation of the Agrosolution Program, which is oriented towards increasing farmer productivity and welfare," he said.
Olivian Rizky, one of the Taruna Makmur students, who was sent off in Batch IX, expressed his gratitude to Petrokimia Gresik for providing a platform for students to learn and engage with the community to better develop Indonesian agriculture.
"Hopefully, this program will provide significant benefits for students in developing their knowledge and taking concrete action in agriculture, thereby improving agricultural productivity," he said briefly.
