PT Petrokimia Gresik (Persero), an Agroindustrial Solutions company and member of the PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) holding, strengthens its contribution in supporting smooth industrial supply chains through the continuation of port services for external service users. This commitment was marked by the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) with the Class II Port Master and Authority Office (KSOP) of Gresik, following up on the approval for the second extension of the Terminal for Own Purpose (TUKS) permit to temporarily serve public interests.
The signing of the PKS regarding Port Service Provision at Petrokimia Gresik's TUKS to Temporarily Serve Public Interests was conducted by Operations and Production Director of Petrokimia Gresik, Majus Luther Sirait, together with Head of Class II KSOP Gresik, Capt. Herbert Elisa Paruntungan Marpaung, at the Grand Mercure Kemayoran Hotel, Jakarta, recently.
Luther stated that the continuation of port services for external service users forms part of the company's commitment to optimizing its existing infrastructure to deliver broader benefits for the industrial sector, particularly in supporting the smooth distribution of goods and raw materials in Gresik and its surroundings.
“Ports play a vital role in maintaining smooth industrial supply chains. We want Petrokimia Gresik's port facilities to not only deliver benefits for company operations, but also become part of the logistics solution for industry players. Through our infrastructure, we strive to support the smooth flow of goods while strengthening industrial connectivity in Gresik and its surroundings,” said Luther.
To support port activities, Petrokimia Gresik operates four jetties, with three currently operating and possessing a combined maximum service capacity of up to 8.47 million tons per year. This infrastructure stands as one of the company's core strengths in supporting logistics needs, both for internal operations and service provision to external users in accordance with applicable regulations.
The three operating jetties include the Main Jetty with a maximum capacity of 6.5 million tons per year capable of servicing vessels up to 60,000 Deadweight Tonnage (DWT), Jetty C with a capacity of 1.5 million tons per year capable of servicing barges up to 10,000 DWT, and UBB Jetty with a capacity of 470 thousand tons per year capable of servicing barges up to 10,000 DWT.
Since first obtaining the permit to temporarily serve public interests in 2022, Petrokimia Gresik's port facilities have been utilized by several industrial companies. These services continue, including for Smelting and PWD, who are recorded as service users for the 2026–2028 period. This continuity demonstrates the role of the company's port facilities in supporting the logistics activities of industrial partners.
In addition to supporting logistics demands, utilizing port facilities for external service users represents part of Petrokimia Gresik's efforts to enhance existing asset productivity. Developing these services opens opportunities for added-value creation and revenue generation beyond the company's core business in the fertilizer and chemical sectors.
“For us, port facilities are not merely physical assets, but productive infrastructure with strategic value for the industrial world. Its optimization must be able to deliver dual benefits simultaneously: maintaining company operational reliability and unlocking service opportunities that generate added value for business partners. This way, available assets can be utilized more productively without compromising their primary functions,” Luther explained.
Furthermore, Luther emphasized that the continuation of port services relies on synergy with the Class II KSOP Gresik. Collaboration with the port authority is essential to ensuring that service provision to external users runs in accordance with regulations while prioritizing safety, security, and operational reliability.
“We appreciate the support and cooperation of Class II KSOP Gresik in supporting the sustainability of these services. Going forward, we hope Petrokimia Gresik's port facilities will continue to serve as key infrastructure supporting industrial activities, delivering benefits to business partners, and driving economic growth in Gresik and surrounding areas,” Luther concluded.
