PT Petrokimia Gresik (Persero), an Agroindustrial Solutions company and member of the PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) holding, as the host holding in the Relawan Bakti BUMN (SOE Volunteer Service) program, distributed aid to communities affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The assistance, comprising basic needs valued at Rp75 million, was distributed through Relawan Bakti BUMN in stages from August 16 to 19, 2026, to several affected areas.
Separately, the President Director of Petrokimia Gresik, Daconi Khotob, in Gresik, East Java, expressed empathy to all communities affected by the earthquake in NTT. He stated that the aid, distributed a day after the disaster, was a form of rapid response to the needs of the community facing an emergency condition. The aid distributed included rice, sugar, cooking oil, and blankets.
“We distributed the assistance together with Pupuk Indonesia. The distribution is being carried out in stages, currently in the form of basic needs required by the community during the emergency response period. We hope this assistance can ease the burden on the affected communities,” said Daconi.
Petrokimia Gresik, together with Pupuk Indonesia, was previously entrusted to host the 2026 Relawan Bakti BUMN Program in Ruteng, Manggarai Regency, NTT. The activity, which involved Relawan Bakti BUMN, was initially focused on community empowerment and agricultural sector development through the TAJUMASE (Tani Maju Makmur Sejahtera / Advanced, Prosperous, and Thriving Farmers) program.
However, alongside the execution of the program, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck the Flores region, NTT, on Saturday (15/8/2026). This situation prompted an adjustment in the focus of the activities, shifting from an empowerment agenda to emergency response support for earthquake-affected communities.
“We initially prepared this program to drive community empowerment, particularly in the agricultural sector. However, when a disaster occurs, community needs naturally become the priority. Therefore, together with Pupuk Indonesia and Relawan Bakti BUMN, we moved to adapt the program so that our presence in NTT provides the benefits most needed by the community right now,” Daconi explained.
According to Daconi, this step is part of Petrokimia Gresik's commitment through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program to deliver real benefits to the public, including during emergency situations.
“NTT is indeed far from Gresik, but distance is no barrier for us to show care. We want affected communities to feel that they are not alone in facing this calamity. There is a spirit of gotong royong (mutual assistance) and support from Petrokimia Gresik together with Pupuk Indonesia to help them get through this difficult time,” he said.
Daconi hopes that conditions in the affected areas will recover quickly so that residents can resume their daily activities.
“May all the people of NTT be granted strength and fortitude, may the injured victims recover quickly, and may conditions in the affected areas improve soon so that the community can return to their usual activities,” he added.
A strong earthquake struck NTT on Saturday (15/8/2026), causing impacts across several areas. Based on data from the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) as of Monday (17/8/2026), the earthquake resulted in 53 fatalities and 135 injuries. The victims were spread across several regencies, including Manggarai and East Manggarai.
During the same period, BNPB recorded 914 severely damaged houses, 126 moderately damaged, and 317 lightly damaged. Damage also occurred to 93 educational facilities, 36 health facilities, and 38 government offices, while more than 5,000 residents were forced to evacuate.
