Petrokimia Gresik, a leading Agroindustry Solution company and a member of the Pupuk Indonesia Holding, has once again organized the Petrokimia Gresik Futsal Championship (PGFC) for high school students at the Tri Dharma Sports Hall from August 22 to September 2023. Petrokimia Gresik continues to provide a platform for futsal competitions at the national standard as a commitment to supporting the development of futsal athletes in East Java.
During the opening ceremony on Tuesday (22/8), Dwi Satriyo Annurogo, the President Director of Petrokimia Gresik, expressed that there is a lack of national-standard futsal competitions for high school-level athletes. This situation has motivated Petrokimia Gresik to facilitate a well-managed competition with national standards.
"As a state-owned enterprise with a developmental role, Petrokimia Gresik is not only oriented toward profit and corporate performance but is also highly committed to advancing national sports. The hope is that this competition will support the achievements of futsal athletes in East Java at the national and international levels," stated Dwi Satriyo.
PGFC is a competition platform for futsal athletes in high schools. This year's competition features 32 of the best teams from schools in several regions in East Java, including Gresik, Surabaya, Lamongan, Sidoarjo, and Mojokerto.
"Starting from the number of participants, field size, and flooring, this competition adheres to national standards. Thus, participants can experience the atmosphere of a national-level competition. The participants themselves are the best, as we conducted further selection from the 64 applicants," explained Dwi Satriyo.
Imam Junaidi Kusumo, the Secretary-General of the National Sports Committee (KONI) of Gresik Regency, expressed gratitude for Petrokimia Gresik's ongoing commitment to fostering futsal athletes in Gresik and its surrounding areas. He hopes that this championship will produce high-achieving athletes at the national level.
"Gresik has produced a female futsal athlete who represented the Indonesian national team. We hope that, after this competition, more original talents from Gresik will represent the national team," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, PGFC itself commenced in 2014 under the name PSFC (Petrogres Student Futsal Competition), with the participation of 8 high school futsal teams in the Gresik area. In 2017, PGFC expanded its reach to include 32 participants from Gresik, Surabaya, and Lamongan. After a hiatus in 2018, PGFC resumed in 2022.
"Let us together make PGFC 2023 a success by upholding the values of sportsmanship, competing honestly and fairly, and prioritizing safety above all else. Today, we are hosting a competition at the national standard with participants from various regions, and in the future, there is a possibility of participants coming from all over East Java, even nationally," concluded Dwi Satriyo.
