Indonesian Tree Planting Day: Petrokimia Gresik Plants 2,000 Mangrove Seedlings And Cleans Beaches Through Envirocamp Program

Petrokimia Gresik, a member of Pupuk Indonesia's Agroindustrial Solutions, organized the "Envirocamp" program involving beach cleaning and planting 2,000 mangrove seedlings at the Mangrove Restoration and Planting Center (PRPM) in Mengare Village, Bungah District, Gresik Regency, recently.

Dwi Satriyo Annurogo, President Director of Petrokimia Gresik, stated that this initiative commemorates "Indonesian Tree Planting Day 2023". It also reflects the company's commitment to environmental management, as agreed upon with East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa last September.

"Environmental conservation requires active participation from everyone, not just the government. Therefore, as part of our environmental preservation efforts, we involve not only the community but also our employees. Through this program, on weekends, our employees join camps and participate in beach cleaning activities and mangrove planting to cultivate employee green behavior," emphasized Dwi Satriyo.

He added that this mangrove planting complements the company's mangrove planting program throughout 2023. During the celebration of Petrokimia Gresik's 51st anniversary some time ago, 5,100 mangrove seedlings were also planted along the Lamong River in Sukorejo Village, Kebomas District, Gresik Regency.

"As part of our mangrove forest rehabilitation efforts, Petrokimia Gresik's contribution is expected to be a small step towards supporting the government's mangrove forest rehabilitation program, which aims to recover 600,000 hectares of mangrove forests as outlined in Presidential Regulation Number 120 of 2020," he explained.

Meanwhile, one of the Envirocamp participants, Agus Satriono, appreciated this initiative for fostering good communication between employees, the company, and the Tanjungwidoro community in environmental preservation. Because this activity also involves the local community.

"Together, we are carrying out coastal rehabilitation in Tanjungwidoro Village, which has been the site of Petrokimia Gresik's Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Responsibility programs. This rehabilitation aims to prevent this area from flood disasters and coastal abrasion. Together with the community, we are building awareness of the environment," he emphasized.

Finally, Dwi Satriyo added that Petrokimia Gresik always prioritizes and pays attention to the environment in its operations. This includes the routine mangrove rehabilitation activities carried out by Petrokimia Gresik along riverbanks and beaches in Gresik.

In addition to PRPM Mengare and Kali Lamong, Petrokimia Gresik also contributes to the development of the Ujungpangkah Mangrove Essential Ecosystem Area (KEE), earning appreciation from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia in the "Private Sector/Company" category in 2021.

"We hope this activity doesn't stop here but continues to create a healthy environment and support sustainable life on earth," concluded Dwi Satriyo.
