Petrokimia Gresik Supports The Regeneration of Farmer

Petrokimia Gresik, an agroindustry solution company and the member of holding company Pupuk Indonesia through Takmir of Petrokimia Gresik Nurul Jannah Mosque gave training of compost fertilizer making and Vegetable cultivation for students and teachers of special education (SLB) AB Kemala Bhayangkari 2 Gresik.

This activity is a manifestation from Petrokimia Gresik Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in build the independence of the diffable. It is also part of the Petrokimia Gresik’s Business Transformation (TBPG) program which is committed to assisting the government in regenerating farmers.

Takmir of Petrokimia Gresik Nurul Jannah Mosque, Rohmad explained that training was given for three days, start from 28 and 31 December 2019, and 2 January 2020. The training was followed by 86 participants whose 61 of them 52 students were hearing impaired, and nine participants were seeing impaired. While the other 25 participants were teachers.

Participants got training about compost fertilizer making (composting). The fertilizers were utilized for vegetable garden of Petrokimia Gresik Nurul Jannah Mosque which the irrigation utilize water used of the pilgrims.

"The participants also received training on land management, planting, and selling of crops. The training provided by Petrokimia Gresik is an integrated program," Rohmad said.

President Director of Petrokimia Gresik, Rahmad Pribadi conveyed that his company will always collaborating with stakeholder to increase the standard living of surrounding community. At this time collaborating with SLB Kemala Bhayangkari 2 Gresik.

"We want to make a contribution, even if there is a little additional knowledge for children so they have the choice to determine their future," Rahmad said

According to Rahmad, the number of Indonesian farmer are about 60 percent the age is already above 60 years, so the human resources of farmer is needed regeneration. The participants are expected able to be farmer and take the role of the old.

“Our special children have the same chance in agriculture. Be a modern farmer is cool, and can make a prosperity,” explained Rahmad Pribadi.

Head of Kemala Bhayangkari Foundation (YKB) Gresik, Cut Laura Kusworo conveyed that the holiday of SLB Kemala Bhayangkari 2 Gresik student is filled with fun learning activities.

“Holiday is filled with training. This knowledge In Syaa Allah will be very beneficial for our children. Hopefully when they enter school, children can immediately be creative in applying the science of making compost and gardening on the school's mini-land, " she said.

Cut Laura conveyed that there were little difficulties in the training process, because diffable children is special children, special needs.

"But thanks to the assistance of teachers, school principal and professional staffs from Petrokimia Gresik, our children are good at gardening and making compost. And now I need to learn from them about the composition of compost making fertilizer," she said.

Cut Laura, who is the wife of the Gresik District Police Chief, AKBP Kusworo Wibowo thinks this knowledge can be used as a provision for them to open up employment opportunities in encouraging independence.

"The initial stage of compost made by children will be used in a mini garden which built with the help of Petrokimia Gresik. However, the next stage can be used by children to open the jobs, and we will guide them, so that they can increase their income," she said.

The principals of SLB AB Kemala Bhayangkari 2 Gresik, Dede Idawati appreciating Petrokimia Gresik’s care to the diffable. Composting training is a new program for their students.

Through the translator, Laili, one of training participant said thank you for Petrokimia Gresik’s care. She believes that the knowledge they got will be something useful towards independency.

Beside to conducting training, Petrokimia Gresik also provided certificates and assistance in the form of 100 potted plants and Rp15 million in cash for composting and gardening capital in schools.

The program of concern for special education students this time is not the first to be conducted by Petrokimia Gresik. Petrokimia Gresik Nurul Jannah Mosque through the Amil Zakat Board Collecting Unit (UPZ Baznas) Petrokimia Gresik has actively provided assistance to special education alumni in the form of training, capital and business equipment as first step to run a business.

UPZ Baznas of Petrokimia Gresik already educate 19 alumni of SLB Kemala Bhayangkari 2 Gresik through empowerment program in culinary, online shop and screen printing since July 2019. This program is the result of a synergy with Community Based Rehabilitation Community (RBM) Giri Kedaton Sejahtera.
